It’s been a whirlwind of activity at the Penang Esports Festival 2019! FIFA2019 was just one of the many tournament games played. We caught up with champions Ahmad Shahrin Shaharudin (Ayen) and Syameer Amjad to hear their thoughts.
These two school friends say they didn’t expect to win the tournament. Ayen started playing FIFA in 2017 and Syameer in 2018, so you could say they’re relatively new to the scene. Ayen’s starting team was Barcelona, while Syameer’s was PSG. They respectively choose Neymar and Messi as their favourite players within FIFA2019.
They’re not just players on the virtual pitch, with both also football players in real life. Syamer himself represents his university on the real green during tournaments. For them, should esports continue expanding and the FIFA Malaysia scene grows, they could have a real shot at being pro players.
Most players often have some strategy they stick to, but the duo says they don’t have any one in particular. They’re more spontaneous, using their own styles and meshing that together with their teamwork coordination. From there, they share in their mistakes, learn, and become better players as a result.
They’re fortunately receiving support from their family in regards to their esports activities, though it didn’t start out that way. Ayen is planning on starting streams on his social media to connect better with his fans.
The duo stress esports isn’t all glitz and glamour, mentioning the required focus and lots of training required. Don’t neglect your studies, aspiring pro players! Not giving up is another important aspect, should you wish to go pro. Ayen and Syameer thank their friends and family for their continued support.
Congratulations to Ayen and Syameer for being champions! Let’s see where they’ll be in their budding esports careers, and we wish them the best.
