The inaugural Penang Esports Festival 2019 is playing host to several esports tournaments, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds: Mobile being one of them. How often do you get to see women competing in esports tournaments? We have an interview with a squad of them, right here!
Dubbed Axis Ladies Elite, the members are:
- Axis Qila: Captain
- Axis Erynna: Sniper
- Axis (Baby) Shark: Scouter
- Axis Bella: Marksman
- Axis Farah: Support
Bella and Erynna are both streamers. A few of them have met in-game before as you might expect. The whole closeness only came after they officially became teammates. Erynna, Farah and Shark were the first members before Bella and Qila came along.
They’ll often join custom rooms for practice. There’s no specific rooms they’re looking for, joining pretty much for practice. Getting used to high-tension situations playing with others is key. Trusting your teammates is another important point. They’ll often have a game plan they’ll try to stick to.
Most of them started playing during roughly Season 2 of PUBG: Mobile. Getting that chicken dinner is good, of course. Overall, though, battle royale games like PUBG: Mobile the team considers a good way to gauge how skilled some people can be. Learn the strategies, to improve themselves. Don’t forget the friends you make along the way, like the teammates you rely on!
The PEF 2019 could be considered the team’s biggest tournament yet, having only formed for about a month. Winning would be nice, but they have another goal in mind. They’re out to show their best game, and to show that women are just as capable in esports too. They’ll be starting on that by putting up a good fight in the PUBG: Mobile tournament!
Their takeaway lessons so far have been to believe not in just each other as teammates, but in themselves too. Especially since it’s a team game, listen to what the other members have to say. They won’t be listening to naysayers who say “women can’t play PUBG”.
We wish Axis Ladies Elite good luck in the coming matches. Go out there and show us what you can do!
