The story of Nintendo filing a lawsuit against Pocketpair, developers of the critically-acclaimed creature collector game Palworld over alleged patent infringements from a couple of weeks ago had rocked the gaming industry to its core. Therefore, concerns regarding the future of the Palworld IP still looms as Palworld devs have already expressed the same level of concerns previously. In spite of that, following the recently shadow launch of their game on the PS5 console, it seems like the developers aren’t planning to put the brakes on their quest to spread the thrill of Palworld to the masses. In an unexpected move, it had been announced that Palworld Mobile is in the works.
With the help of KRAFTON, the South Korean publisher of the battle-royale shooter PUBG: Battlegrounds, they are looking to manifest that into reality. This announcement was revealed on a press release by KRAFTON which they had mentioned of having signed a licensing agreement with Pocketpair to bring Palworld to mobile devices.
Within the same announcement, there was also confirmation that PUBG Studios, a creative studio under KRAFTON will be handling the porting of the game who already had garnered plenty of experience from successfully porting the battle royale shooter to the mobile market. The studio was able to catapult the popularity of the PUBG IP even further once it entered the mobile scene and the same can potentially be said for the upcoming mobile port of Palworld whenever it comes out.
KRAFTON reassures that through this licensing agreement contract signing with Pocketpair “It plans to faithfully reinterpret and implement the original’s main fun elements to fit the mobile environment,” so we can look forward to how they will pull this off.
Going on a bit of a tangent, news of the publisher KRAFTON acquiring not only Tango Gameworks who are the developers of Hi-Fi Rush but also acquisition of the rights to the game from Microsoft Gaming have long been reported. Tango Gameworks had brought us games like The Evil Within franchise and Ghostwire: Tokyo for those who are still wondering who might they be. This acquisition news, coupled with the recently announcement of Palworld Mobile being in development certainly has us feeling quite excited for what more they have in store. We’ll be keeping our eyes out for any further interesting updates regarding this development. Until then, stay tuned.
