Overwatch Retribution – An Insight of The Retribution Gameplay

Overwatch Retribution is launched now! Thanks to the invitation from Blizzard, we were able to playtest one of the latest Overwatch Archives event, Retribution, at the Blizzard HQ in California. As mentioned before in one our article, Overwatch Retribution is an event that’s alike the Uprising event we had last year. We have both a Story Mode and an All Heroes Mode, which will be unlocked after we’ve completed the Legendary difficulty of the Story Mode.

With the four chosen heroes of the Blackwatch team – Moira, Reyes (Reaper), McCree and Genji, our mission is to fight through the Talons and extract from Rialto, Venice. Based on the hero composition, we know that it’s going to be tough (unless you guys are real pros). But even real pros would have a hard time getting through it!

With just one support healer, Moira, players will need to go through the events strategically and patiently. However if there are casualties, players can revive their teammates and move on to the objective. It’s crucial to keep the healing up as heroes like Genji and McCree do not have life-steal capabilities unlike Moira and Reaper. However that doesn’t mean that those two heroes can ‘rambo’ through the mission.

While on the mission, players will encounter special forces of the Talons which are the Heavy Assault, Sniper and the Assassin. The Heavy Assault unit is a unit that has high HP, equipped with a mini-gun and the ability to charge at you like Reinhardt. While the Sniper unit is just like Widowmaker with the grapple ability to reach higher places. Lastly, the Assassin has the ability to move quickly, jumping around buildings and pounce at you which will immobilize you while it claws you to death (just like the Stalker in Left4Dead).

In the end, when it’s time to extract from your mission, there will be even more units and specials that will appear from every corner to stop you from getting away. This is the most crucial moment as it requires players to communicate and cooperate even more to get to the objective. As the objective requires all 4 players alive to complete the mission, no man can be left behind.

Now that the event is up and running, this will be a very exciting event for veteran players and new players alike to experience something new that the developers have in stored for us. In this event, there are new challenges, new animations that players have never experienced before in Overwatch and a piece of lore that all Overwatch players are excited about.
