Blizzard has revealed the 2019 regular season schedule of Overwatch League. The new season includes new events as well as a revamped system. The regular season will begin on the 14th of February 2019, featuring a rematch between defending champions London Spitfire versus the Philadelphia Fusion.
In addition to a brand new season, Blizzard also introduces new events known as the Homestand Weekend events. These events feature teams hosting regular season matches in their respective territories before moving to their home venue. This allows local fans to watch the matches in person in the comfort of their local area. Three teams – the Dallas Fuel, Atlanta Reign and Los Angeles Valiant – will host the matches as part of the event.
On the other hand, the 2019 season will feature a new revamped playoff system. Furthermore, the end-season has also been reworked. For the 2019 season, the league’s top six teams will receive automatic qualification to the postseason tournament. Winners of both the Atlantic and Pacific Divisions will receive top seeds. A play-in tournament will decide the remaining 2 playoff spots for the postseason tournament. Teams that finished seventh through twelfth in the overall standings will play for the 2 slots. The play-in tournament replaces the Stage Finals at the end of the league’s fourth stage.
Additionally, the prize pool has increased to 5 million USD compared to 2018’s 3.5 million USD. Information on the All Stars Weekend, playoffs and Grand Finals will be revealed next year. Fans can watch the matches through the official site, Twitch and MLG.
