Players will be getting their opportunity to try out Overwatch 2, in a PVP beta. As it were, closed alpha testing for the mode has already begun for select regions, where Blizzard employees, Overwatch League pros and other select key partners are trying it to prepare it for wider testing. Game Director Aaron Keller says as much in a developer update video, which can be seen below:
The Overwatch 2 PVP beta test is part of a process of decoupling the game’s PVP and PVE experiences to allow players to at least experience the PVP content while they work on PVE. The team is aiming to increase communication and updates regarding plans in the coming months. The beta itself is planned to start late April for PC in all regions, bringing in a larger group of testers and get their feedback. The beta intends to test new features, content and systems before moving to stress-testing servers with a larger player base in the future.
Content in the first beta includes:
- New Damage Hero: Sojourn
- New Game Mode: Push
- 5v5 Multiplayer
- Hero Reworks
- 4 New Maps
Interested players can request access through the official website, to be granted in phases in gradually increasing numbers. Regular updates are promised regarding the first beta as it approaches launch.
