Overwatch 2 is about to kick off its latest season and Blizzard Entertainment not only showcases new content but also teases a collaboration with beloved anime series Cowboy Bebop.
Kicking off next week on 13 February 2024, Blizzard released a new trailer showcasing the many changes coming to Season 9 of Overwatch 2, named Champions, featuring reworked competitive mode, new hero skins based on cosmic horror and more.
Then toward the end of the trailer, a familiar scene comes into play as a tumbleweed rolls through the deserted streets of the Western-inspired Route 66 map.
The camera then pans to a jukebox before a familiar sting plays, which is none other than the opening theme song of Cowboy Bebop, “Tank!”
Blizzard has yet to officially announce the crossover collaboration between Overwatch 2 and Cowboy Bebop, but the use of the anime’s iconic theme is certainly a good hint.
Considering how the scene is set up with it even set on Route 66, it is fair to speculate that cowboy gunslinger Cassidy may be getting a skin based on Cowboy Bebop’s main character Spike Spiegel.
Perhaps, we might even see a Faye Valentine skin for one of the Overwatch ladies or maybe a Vicious skin for Genji, since they are both swordsmen.
This is not the first time that Overwatch collaborated with an anime series as recall that the game once had a crossover with One-Punch Man.
The One-Punch Man event brought in a variety of skins, all based on the heroes and villains from its universe, featuring the likes Doomfist as Saitama, Genji as Genos, Kiriko as Tatsumaki, and Soldier: 76 as Mumen Rider.
