Japan-based developer CyberStep has just announced that it will be launching Onigiri Heroes, its latest MMORPG, for the Android and iOS platforms in 2022. Evidently there are big plans for the game, since it will go global right off the bat.
For context, Onigiri Heroes is based on the Onigiri MMORPG released by the same CyberStep back in 2013 for various platforms, namely Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation Vita and Nintendo Switch. Assuming that this iteration of Onigiri is more or less similar to its predecessor, then the game is set in a fantasy version of ancient Japan that is filled with mythical creatures. An evil entity known as Kamikui had brought about destruction and chaos across the land before Sun Goddess Amaterasu put a stop to its reign of terror. Three seals were placed on Kamikui which lead to a momentary respite for humanity, but as with these sort of things, one of the seals had eventually shattered. You take on the role of an Oni whose life is disrupted due to the chain of events caused by Kamikui’s revival.
There have been no details whatsoever as to what gameplay entails, but it being an MMORPG should give you some semblance of what to expect. There does not appear to be a site for the game yet, so you may want to just linger around the official developer website for new details when it drops.
