One Piece Odyssey Introduces Turn-Based Battle System and Two New Characters

The One Piece Odyssey Japanese website has now been updated with a number of new screenshots presenting the game’s turn-based battle system as well as giving us more information on two new game original characters.

One Piece Odyssey will be split into two sections, ‘adventure’ and ‘battle’. Adventure will consist of exploring ‘Waffled’ Island and using the Straw Hat’s individual abilities to access new locations, like using Franky’s machinery skills to build a bridge.

The ‘Battle’ part of One Piece Odyssey consists of a traditional turn-based battle system with the Straw Hats as party members. Each crew member will play an active unique role in combat. At the beginning of a battle, you can select the attack range of your character to maximize the use of their unique skills.

In certain scenarios, you can trigger dramatic battle scenes that will lead to a high amount of bonus damage, and in certain conditions, the characters will use ‘bond arts’ which are combination abilities.

We also got more information on the two new characters that are being introduced in this game. The first is Lim, a mysterious girl who hates pirates.

The other character is Adio, a castaway who now lives on the island. He will act as a guide of sorts for the Straw Hat Crew. Adio was seen in the announcement trailer for One Piece Odyssey but this is our first glimpse at the role he will play in the game.

One Piece Oddysey will be released in 2022 on the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
