The Omnidesk Pro 2020 is finally available in Malaysia, bringing with it top-of-the-line features as well as an overall high-quality build.
For those not in the loop, Omnidesk is a premier brand of sitting/standing desks, letting you stretch out your back by standing upright or switching back to a sitting height when you get tired.
With that in mind, the Omnidesk Pro 2020 is more than just a table with an adjustable height- it’s pretty clear that the good folks over at Omnidesk really had a solid idea of what the pains of having a bad table are, because every decision put into the 2020 model seems to have been made with convenience in mind.
A Desk For Everyone
One of the best features on the Omnidesk Pro 2020 is its programmable buttons, letting you program up to four different height settings. All you have to do is use the manual buttons to raise the desk to your preferred height, then press the program button and the slot to have it saved to that slot. Four slots might seem a weird choice, but it makes sense- you have one height for yourself standing, one for sitting, and two more for anyone else you might live to share it with.
Speaking of the raising functions, the desk uses motors to make raising the table relatively effortless. It’s really convenient, considering how a lot of motorized items tend to be quite noisy and slow. Despite this, the Omnidesk Pro 2020 is actually pretty easy on the ears, and the table moves at a pretty decent speed (Omnidesk says it’s a 40% increase from its previous model, and we’re taking their word for it).
Even better, the desk has bump detection, where it will stop if it collides with something while moving up or down. This is a really neat feature, since it both protects the table’s motors, as well as stops potential accidents if you didn’t plan the layout of your room correctly.
Speaking of, at its maximum height the Omnidesk is actually way taller than I expected. At 125cm, it’s definitely tall enough for most Malaysians to use while standing up. Meanwhile it’s minimum height, 60cm, is great to use while sitting down or kneeling on the floor.
One thing that should bear mentioning is that there is no battery on the table, instead plugging in directly to any AC outlets in your room. It makes sense- something’s got to power those motors- but just bear in mind what wherever you’re planning to put it, you’ll need a socket nearby.
Overall, I really like how much this desk is clearly angled for home office use. From its support for multiple users to the tools for using it in a more crowded setting, it’s got a lot of great features to make sure you’re always comfortable when using it.
A Solid Surface To Do Your Best Work On
Of course, fancy motors and settings mean nothing if the table’s no good. Thankfully, Omnidesk knows that you don’t just put desk in half of your name for show- the table is, in fact, actually pretty solid.
The Omnidesk Pro 2020 series comes with three different colors, and ours is the yet-unavailable-in-Malaysia Wildwood finish. Alternatively, you can also get the black and white variants, but outside of the color there’s no difference.
That being said, I have to say I adore the WIldwood finish on this. As great as minimalistic looks are, you just can’t beat the authentic wood texturing, and it really helps sell the fact that this table is incredibly solid. Admittedly the sheer weight of the tabletop means you’re probably going to need a second set of hands setting it up, but I can assure you it’s worth the hassle. After all, it just feels so sturdy, you never have to worry about the fear of it suddenly collapsing like you might do with cheaper desks.
Of course, it’s more than just a solid hunk of wood. It also comes with cable management solutions, via a cutout hole in the back to run all your wires through. I really appreciate this feature, since a smart desk should look smart, and that means cables hanging off the back end just won’t do.
Accessories For Your Productivity Ecosystem
Of course, there’s more to the Omnidesk Pro 2020 than just the desk. Omnidesk has a variety of accessories you can get, and they sent us a few of them to check out alongside the table itself.
Castor Wheels
The first one that they sent is the Castor Wheels, which allows you to attach wheels to the bottom of the Omnidesk. letting you move it around as you see fit. The wheels have a good amount of give to them, with the table moving a satisfying amount with every push, but not too much that accidentally bumping into the table is going to send it flying.
That being said, the fact that the Omnidesk Pro needs to be plugged in makes wanting to roll it around kind of weird. Admittedly, that’s purely down to personal bias. As a desk jockey who never has to move around, I can’t imagine why you’d want to push an AC-powered desk around. But the fact that the feature exists means someone uses it, and the fact that the option is there is obviously pretty great.
One caveat I’d have to say is if you’re thinking about getting the Omnidesk and wondering if you should just get the wheels later, get them now. It’s better to have the wheels on and not use them , rather than turning the whole table over to attach them at a later date. A really solid counter top has its drawbacks, after all.
Arc Stealth Monitor Stand
The Arc Stealth Monitor stand is an arm-mounted stand for any Vesa-compatible monitors. The crane arm gives it a pretty decent range of where it can go, and it even comes with a built-in USB hub so you can extend the number of devices plugged in to your computer.
While it obviously works with PCs as well, I really like using it for second displays, since if you’re the type to move around with your laptop it turns the Omnidesk into a pretty solid Home Base-type setup where you can do your work that requires the additional display.
Spark Desk Lamp
The Spark Desk lamp is a pretty neat lamp, offering good lighting for night owls or people without the luxury of a well-lit room. On top of that it also doubles as a wireless charging pad, letting you charge your phone with ease.
That being said, there’s some gripes to be had with it. For one, while the lamp is USB powered, you’ll need something stronger than a laptop to plug it into to use the wireless charger. The second is that the cable is actually quite short, so if you’re alternating between heights a lot you’ll want to make sure your fancy new desk lamp doesn’t go flying.
Titus Desk Mat
A mainstay of any work station, the Titus Desk Mat allows you to have a more frictional surface so anything you use doesn’t slip off the table. It works pretty well as a mouse pad, and should alleviate any worries about accidentally ruining the finishing on the table top.
Atlas Anti-Fatigue Mat
A giant foam mat, this pillow-like accessory is meant to be put on the floor, alleviating pressure from your lower back when you’re using the Omnidesk in standing up position for too long.
This definitely feels like the most important accessory to get for anyone who’s a fan of Standing desks, since hard floors do an absolute number on your back if you use them for too long.
Closing Thoughts
All in all, Omnidesk have definitely created a total luxury item with the Omnidesk Pro 2020. It’s got all the fixings of a great table, and the suite of accessories really turns it up to 11.
The only downside is that luxury items have a luxury price tag- The Omnidesk Pro 2020 is currently available at the Omnidesk website for RM2400, which might be a bit steep. Even the accessories each sport triple-digit price tags, where even the Desk Lamp costs RM309.
If you’ve got the financial stamina for it though, the Omnidesk Pro 2020 is definitely an amazing item to enhance your working experience. The fact of the matter is human spines weren’t meant to be in one position all day, so the idea of a desk that can alternate between positions is great.
You can buy it now from the Omnidesk website either for yourself or as a gift for a loved one, they’re bound to love it.
