Ode to Heroes isn’t just another idle game. Sure, you don’t have to actively monitor it, but there’s a certain level of depth that other idle games do not possess. Read on to find out more.
The Eastern influence is all over the game, from the title screen and especially in the heroes. Enjoy the classical Eastern art style presented to you in painterly colours, reminiscent of historical Chinese art and calligraphy. Even the currencies, equipment, menus and so forth are kept to the theme, with these copper coins, scrolls and jade scattered across the game.
The plot has you, the Destiny Minister, summon heroes picked throughout eastern history to fix a disordered timeline. As you upgrade heroes, you’ll be able to unlock their backgrounds. Read up on historical figures from eastern history and lore, a breath of fresh air compared to most western-fantasy inspired games! You will find no less gripping and touching stories within the biographies of these figures, brought to life in an art style true to their origins.
There’s a more social aspect here compared to a large variety of idle games. You can communicate with the others on your server through a global chat, as well as join guilds. You and your friends can also find bosses, and you can join in the battle to get rewards too! At a high enough guild level, you’d be able to compete in Guild Wars. Help your guild obtain victory!
The ‘idle’ aspect is no slouch either. You can get quite generous rewards when you return to collect them, with hero shards dropping fairly regularly. You see, you can also summon additional heroes, but even if you’re not lucky, you can still get a proper team to progress through the campaign. Not only that, you can pick an element you want a hero from thanks to The Sages! If you don’t like the hero you get, you can choose to replace them too.
Challenge more difficult content in the Secret Realm and Sky Tower. Progress through a gauntlet of increasingly more powerful guardians to claim your prizes. Guild Trials will see you face down large beasts for other rewards. When you’re not fighting, you can go to the Noticeboard to send your heroes off to complete quests. Take some time to read the quest flavour text too, you might find some amusing tidbits hidden there!
You’ll have to upgrade your heroes to continue further into the campaign. You can craft equipment from the various drops and progressively increase their base rarities, then equip them on your heroes. Heroes can unlock abilities when you have them Breakthrough, unlocking more of their potential and increasing their level cap. With sufficient time, you could potentially evolve them into different forms as well, or promote them.
Visit the Destiny Tree to upgrade stats for the various class types. If your team happens to be heavily Emperor-focused, then upgrade the relevant tree! These Destiny Trees could make even your lowest rarity hero strong provided they are of that class! It will take quite a bit of investment, but you can be sure your party will be able to tackle the game’s content.
You have faction bonuses depending on how many element heroes are in play. These will then apply bonuses to the team. Faction bonuses allows even “non-optimal” team builds to function with the percentage based bonuses. For example, the Six Paths Faction Halo provides 9% ATK and 9% HP to the party. That’s not even counting Mythical Pets you can get later in the game!
Even as you don’t play the game, there’s plenty waiting for you to get back and be strong enough to experience. Try Ode to Heroes now! Keep up to date with the game via Facebook.
Who knows, it could inspire you to learn more about the east’s history, of their heroes and legends!
