The Octopath Traveler prequel gacha game, Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent is confirmed to have an English version soon. This was revealed earlier today during Square Enix’s live stream detailing version 2.0.0 for the game.
You can watch the live stream below here (the announcement of the English release happens at 1:15:36 of the video):
The English version of Champions of the Continent will launch in North America and Europe in 2022 at an unspecified date. A closed beta test is also planned for Spring 2022. Beyond that, not a lot of other information regarding the English version was announced. Square Enix stated that “we’ll have more details to share in mid-February, and hope all the fans out there are looking forward to it!”
The game was originally released in Japan on October 28, 2020. A major sign that the game was getting an English version appeared when Square Enix filed for the English trademark of Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent back on December 8, 2021, three months before today.
Champions of the Continent is set several years before the events of the Switch/PC game. Square Enix is no stranger to introducing mobile entries to pre-existing console game franchises, with NieR Re[in]carnation being an example.
