Doug Bowser, the president of Nintendo of America states in earnest that the company will continue supporting the original Nintendo Switch in conjunction with the release of its second console.
Nintendo covered an event in New York City where attending press were given the opportunity to play on the console and speak to the company’s representatives. During the event, a question was raised by the Washington Post to the president on the future plans regarding the original Switch after the upcoming release of Nintendo Switch 2.

Bowser replies saying the firm will continue to observe consumers and how they engage with the platform in order to understand what the future may look like. Another point made is that the Nintendo Switch has an install base of 150 million plus units. More may be announced on May 8 when they get their next earnings call. The firm aims to keep all Switch players engaged as a high majority of them are not ready to jump into the Switch 2 in comparison to the other percentage of users that are ready to jump into the console on day one.

Switch 2 editions of games will be separate from the Switch 2’s standard backwards compatibility and may need to be purchased separately or upgraded for original Switch users.
Pre-orders have been delayed due to economic unrest, however initial release in June may have no major delays or changes.
