Nintendo has officially announced that the live-action movie adaptation of The Legend of Zelda will hit theaters worldwide on March 26, 2027. The highly anticipated release date was revealed exclusively through Nintendo’s newly launched Nintendo Today app, which debuted following the March 27th Nintendo Direct presentation.
The announcement marks a significant milestone for the project, which was first revealed in November 2023 as a collaboration between Nintendo and Sony Pictures Entertainment. Both companies are co-financing the film, with Sony handling global distribution duties. Gaming industry legend Shigeru Miyamoto, the original creator of the Zelda franchise, is serving as producer alongside Avi Arad, whose previous work includes the Spider-Man movie franchise and the 2022 adaptation of Uncharted.

While the brief teaser shared through the app confirmed only the global release date, Nintendo has stated they will be heavily involved in both the plot development and direction of the film, ensuring it stays true to the beloved gaming series.
This adaptation follows Nintendo’s previous successful ventures into Hollywood. The 2019 Detective Pikachu film starring Ryan Reynolds and Justice Smith earned $433 million at the box office, while The Super Mario Bros. Movie (2023) featuring Chris Pratt and Jack Black became one of the highest-grossing films of all time, collecting an impressive $1.363 billion worldwide.
With the release date still approximately two years away, fans eagerly await further details about casting, plot, and other elements of this landmark adaptation of one of gaming’s most iconic franchises.
