On a recent interview with the new Nintendo president, Shuntaro Furukawa, with Kyoto Shimbun, he has revealed the company’s current target market and what they are looking forward to for the future of the company. With the rising of the mobile gaming industry, Nintendo will be following suit to focus on the blooming mobile market. Since then, Nintendo has already released a couple of games for the mobile market like Fire Emblem Heroes, Super Mario Run and Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp.
For Nintendo to really make it a primary source of revenue, Nintendo’s mobile games will have to make at least 100 billion yet in sales. Though it may seem difficult to reach such a high target, Furukawa believes that such a challenge is needed for Nintendo’s mobile game business with the rise of market of mobile gaming.
With Nintendo known for their portable devices, it has been 6 years since the release of Nintendo 3DS (2011) and Nintendo 3DS XL (2012) and we have yet to see a new Nintendo portable (the Nintendo Switch doesn’t really count as a portable console, it’s a solid console with portable capability). However, Furukawa did mention that there might be a direct successor to the Nintendo 3DS – ‘considering every possibility’.
