It would seem that the management team behind Goddess of Victory: Nikke has sent an apology to Japanese artist neco for their new characters being too similar to neco’s original design.
To commemorate the New Year, Shift Up recently launched the “New Year, New Sword” event for Goddess of Victory: Nikke, however, fans pointed out that an NPC spotted a design that looked awfully similar to the FALSLANDER Samurai, an original character by neco.
The in-game sprite of a Nikke NPC was called out by fans to be extremely similar to the design of the FALSLANDER Samurai by neco, sporting the same haircut, a similar red string headdress and mask, black and red color scheme, and a tight leather suit.
The artist neco themselves caught on to the news and responded with a Twitter post, noting that the “parts composition was almost the same.”
“Maybe it is a coincidence, but, sadly, there are so many things happening one after the other.”
According to a new Twitter post by neco, the management team behind Goddess of Victory: Nikke has since reached out to them, acknowledging the similarities between the characters and issuing an apology.
They also noted that they are currently working with the Goddess of Victory: Nikke developers to investigate the matter further and discuss any future measures, but nothing is concrete yet.
Scarlet: Black Shadow
Aside from the NPC, Scarlet: Black Shadow, the latest recruitment Nikke in the game was also called out for having some similar design elements to neco’s FALSLANDER Samurai.
In a Reddit comment made by a user whose name is inappropriate to be written here, they made a comparison between neco’s original design and Scarlet: Black Shadow, listing out the similarities.
Color palette aside, the comparison includes both characters having a similar red string headpiece and armor pauldron in a slightly different placement.
For the uninitiated, neco is known for their work Girls’ Frontline as well as the FALSLANDER series of illustrations, which is where the aforementioned character belonged.
The FALSLANDER series is also being manufactured into figma figurines by Good Smile Company, including the previously mentioned Samurai, Lanze Reiter, and Hemet Nethel.
