A Certain Magical Index: Imaginary Fest is having a crossover event with the NieR series, featuring an original story and new costumes. The event went live earlier at the start of this month on 1st May 2021.
In-game characters of A Certain Magical Index: Imaginary Fest will appear in outfits inspired from characters in NieR Replicant and NieR:Automata. They are:
- 2B Mikoto Misaka (Battle Character)
- A2 Othinus (Battle Character)
- Kainé Oriana Thomson (Battle Character)
- Nier Accelerator (Assist Character)
- Emil Index (Assist Character)
- Yonah Last Order (Assist Character)
- 2B Mii Konori (Assist Character)
These characters will feature in a new original story complete with voice acting. The collaboration story sees series protagonist Touma taking part in the beta test for “NieR”, an online game. Once inside, he meets people whom he recognises that are using NieR avatars.

For those who are unfamiliar, A Certain Magical Index: Imaginary Fest is a mobile game based on light novel and anime series A Certain Magical Index. The game released on 4th July 2019 in Japan. Square Enix is its publisher, which largely explains how this crossover happened in the first place.
As for NieR, the newest game in the series is NieR Replicant ver.1.22474487139… which is available on PS4, Xbox One and PC via Steam. NieR figures are also currently on sale at the time of writing, so you should definitely check them out if you are a fan.
