At the just wrapped NieR: Theatrical Orchestra 12020, Square Enix took the opportunity to announce a smartphone game in the NieR franchise (it is?) of video games going with the title NieR Re[in]carnation (NieR Reincarnation).
Accompanying the announcement is a short teaser video and visuals for the game, which genre remains unknown for the time being. As you would expect, the accompanying video is very cryptic and gives away nothing.
While English text is to be seen in the clip, no confirmation has been given as to whether or not NieR Reincarnation will be making its way out of Japan. Then again, with the surge in popularity of the franchise following the release of NieR: Automata, it is safe to assume we will be seeing a localised version down the line if not simultaneously.
This free-to-play title is being produced by Square Enix itself, with Applibot serving as its developer and CyDesignation being in charge of character designs. If this isn’t your cup of tea, know that NieR Replicant is getting a remastered edition for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC as well. As for a new installment in the franchise, we will have to see the reception towards these two titles, although it is safe to assume that given the success of NieR: Automata, we are going to see a new and proper release at some point in time.
