Niantic, the creators of Pokemon Go has soft-launched their latest AR pet simulator game Peridot exclusively in Malaysia. While the rest of the world will get the game eventually, for now, Malaysian gamers alone get an early look at it.
Like Pokemon Go, Peridot will see players interacting with a number of monsters that will be transported into the real world through the power of AR. What separates the game from Pokemon is that it will be more of a pet simulator as opposed to a light RPG with more in common with titles like Tamagotchi or Nintendogs.
Peridots are mysterious creatures that were thought to be extinct but have now been rediscovered. It is up to the player to breed and conserve these cute colorful critters by raising them to adulthood.
Features of the game include completing daily tasks for the Peridots such as walking them a certain distance, feeding them, petting them as well as completing a number of smaller tasks based on the furballs’ desires. To pet them, you simply pet them in real life and feeding similarly involves drawing a circle with your hand, which commands the peridot to forage. All of these will raise your Peridot’s experience and happiness.
When your Peridot gets enough experience, they will reach adulthood. You can choose to take it to a habitat, which is a location-based area like a PokeStop or you can breed it with another Peridot and then release it back into the wild. You can only have one at a time.
Breeding your Peridot can result in the child taking genetic aspects from its parent, making a different, one-of-a-kind animal with “infinite possibilities”.
Peridot is available for mobile devices in Malaysia as a soft launch. It will likely come to other regions throughout the rest of the year.
