Pokemon GO’s developer, Niantic, will return to working on AR, as it announced that it will be working on a new game which will implement audio cues into the experience. Niantic CTO Phil Keslin made a comment on how AR can force players to awkwardly walk around with their device held high, which is unnatural and in turn makes them look silly. As Pokemon GO only forces players to utilise the AR feature briefly, so players don’t completely look odd.
According to Keslin, audio can be integrated into an AR experience much more naturally, as all that required need is a pair of earbuds in your ears. Other than the fact that audio cues being central in the next game, no further details were divulged. An example of how audio could be integrated into an AR experience was brought up however, with the game telling you to head in X direction but avoid looking up while doing so. Niantic is being very hush hush, but be sure to stay tuned for more information as we get them.
