Niantic and Nintendo have announced a new mobile app involving the real world and Pikmin. The original announcement made on Twitter reads as follows:
What would it be like to have a more fun walking experience surrounded by #Pikmin? In a new mobile app developed by @NianticLabs and Nintendo coming later in 2021, explore the real world and create memories with your Pikmin friends.
Readers should be very familiar with Niantic’s name, being the developer behind Pokemon Go. In the current COVID-19 climate, we would be concerned how Niantic and Nintendo intend to make this Pikmin game work with the real world, but considering the allowances Pokemon Go has made, we can probably expect something similar.
The latest Pikmin game was Pikmin 3 Deluxe, having launched 30 October 2020 for the Nintendo Switch. Perhaps due to that release, the charming little creatures have garnered more attention, making it a good time for a foray into mobile. In any case, pre-registrations for the title are now available here. With nothing else besides the vague 2021 launch window, we’ll have to wait for more announcements, presumably in a Nintendo Direct in the near future.
Maybe you’ll be the grand explorer leading around the Pikmin, who knows? Stay tuned.
