According to a report by TechCrunch, Razer has just acquired Nextbit. For the uninitiated, Nexbit started off with its Kickstarter project in the form of a smartphone known simply as The Robin, which managed to raise USD 1.3 million from the crowd-funding platform.
It is unclear at this point as to what Nextbit will be developing under Razer, although the company will still maintain its independence.

Tom Moss, Nextbit’s co-founder, did however suggest that Razer may working on smartphones with the new acquisition. Moss informed TechCrunch on the possibilities, stating that Razer is interested in keeping operations as is. Of course, by virtue of being gaming hardware company, Razer may wish to develop a gaming-centric smartphone, although as history as proven through the likes of the Nokia N-Gage and Sony Xperia PLAY, such devices may not be such a great idea.
