Capcom has confirmed that the next new entry in the Resident Evil series is currently in development, with Kōshi Nakanishi, the director of Resident Evil 7 biohazard, directing the project.
As confirmed during today’s Capcom Next: Summer 2024 program, Nakanishi, who is helming the project teases the next entry, which is expected to be Resident Evil 9.
“We’re making a new Resident Evil,” Nakanishi said at the end of the Capcom Next: Summer 2024 presentation.
“It was difficult to figure out what to do after Resident Evil 7. But I found it, and to be honest, it feels substantial. I can’t share any details just yet, but I hope you’re excited for the day I can.”
Aside from directing Resident Evil 7 biohazard, Nakanishi also previously served as director for Resident Evil: Revelations and Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D. He also contributed to the development of Resident Evil 5 as a designer.
While Capcom has to reveal Resident Evil 9 officially, rumors of the game have been widespread with notable insider Dusk Golem claiming that the title is set to be revealed soon.
It was also claimed that the project was in development for 7 years and was originally intended to be the eighth entry before Resident Evil Village was rebooted from a spin-off project to the eighth main installment.
The confirmation of the next Resident Evil in the works is also accompanied by the launch of Resident Evil 7 biohazard for Apple devices such as iPhone 15 Pro, iPad, and Mac.
