Keep your heads up as Disney may soon be taking the world of gaming by storm with an acquisition of Nexon, a gaming giant in South Korea which is much known for its MapleStory titles.
According to The Korea Herald, the chairman of Nexon, Kim Jung-ju was apparently looking to sell off his and his wife’s stake of 15 trillion won ($13.2 billion) in the company since January.
Since then, a number of companies have showed up to take Nexon off the chairman’s hand with a shortlist of Kakao, MBK Partners with Netmarble, Tencent, Bain capital and an undisclosed foreign establishment.
However, Disney seems to have a special spot in Chairman’s heart as it was said that the NXC Chairman personally approached a high-ranking Disney representative to strike off a deal.
It’s unsure why Disney would be interested in Nexon but it could be that Disney wishes to expand its market on the mobile platform or there could be other thing as well.
For now, the two parties have yet to disclose any information regarding the acquisition. What are your thoughts on this? Let us know down the comments.
