Players of Amazon Games’ new MMORPG, New World, are making use of the game’s report system to ban their opponents and win faction wars.
In most online games, the report system is how players can alert moderators of cheating or abusive behaviour witnessed in the game. In New World, however, players have discovered that they can get make use of the report system to ban others simply by reporting the player en masse.
This issue has been prevalent for weeks and has grown to be a massive problem. This is because the game’s PvP faction wars are timed and only happens at specific times. Players of the same faction or company would then time their reports towards key figures from the opposing side so that they get banned. Even popular Twitch streamer Fextralife suffered the same fate.
On the New World forums, many players are highlighting the severity of this issue:
User journ3y made the following post:
The reporting system is ripe for abuse. It seems to be an automatic system, and since we are a large company our governor is getting targeted.
Another user, XLordX revealed more about the methodology involved:
Guild leaders are getting banned minutes and hours before wars takes place.
Main players in wars are getting banned so they can’t partake in the war while support sorts out the ban and apologizes for getting false-banned.
According to user Rimeya:
This is a really cheap manoeuvre by someone abusing the report function to their advantage. This is a common strategy on other servers which other company leaders have confirmed to us. We need help to get this resolved.
We recently did a giveaway for New World, and as more players join the game, we hope that Amazon Games can fix the issue for the game’s longevity.
