Update 12/07/23 – The new 2023 Godzilla movie has been titled Godzilla Minus One and has received a new teaser trailer. It has also been confirmed that the movie has been pushed back to December 1st, 2023.
Original Article: Toho has celebrated ‘Godzilla Day’ with the announcement that a new Japanese Godzilla movie is in production and will be released theatrically exactly one year from today on the 3rd of November 2023.
This was confirmed on the Godzilla Official Twitter account alongside a new logo for the movie and release date.

It has also been announced that the movie will be directed by Takashi Yamazaki most well-known for the live-action Parasyte movies as well as the animated movies Lupin III: The First, Dragon Quest: Your Story and Stand By Me Doraemon 1 and 2. Earlier in his career, he also directed a movie called Always: Sunset on Third Street 2 where Godzilla actually made a cameo in a dream sequence.
We currently know little about the plot of the film and whether it will be a continuation of any of the previous Godzilla movies or a complete reboot, although I personally believe that the latter is more plausible.
The last Japanese live-action Godzilla movie was the 2016 film Shin Godzilla directed by Evangelion creator Hideaki Anno. That film took place in a completely separate continuity from any previous Godzilla movie with a very different and darker interpretation of the classic monster.
Toho’s new Godzilla movie will premiere in cinemas on November 3rd, 2023.
