New Gunbound recently ended its Closed Beta stress test. There’s no official launch date yet, but we can at least tell how the game plays so far. Check out our gameplay video!
Irene – or “Rin” – is your cute assistant who will take you through the tutorial. The loading times can jump a lot, but it’s a stress test build, so it’s understandable. Keys are required to start quests and open chests. The map separated into zones with their recommended levels/level caps. From there, they’re broken down further into further segments like 1-1 and 1-2. There’s now flavour text for transitions between battles, finding treasure or finding Irene. Irene will hand you quests if you encounter her.
In the game, you control your Mobile with a virtual directional pad and a Shoot button. You can reposition yourself on the spot when it’s not your turn. Movement is limited by “mobility” (the blue bar), while you can hold the Shoot button to shoot further. Each Mobile has its own skills, increasing in strength and cooldown time from bottom to top. Attacks from both you and the enemy can change the shape of the map you’re on. Be careful where you aim; damaging yourself is possible, and enemies can also damage one another.
Battles can get more complex as there are assist items too. If a battle’s too tough, you can also simply run away at a given probability. Notices like “the wind is changing” and “A Moondisc is created in the map” were included, but whether they actually had any effects was hard to tell. It does imply that map conditions can change and items will drop throughout a battle.
While exploring the map, you can encounter bosses, or mini games. Running from bosses are guaranteed should you find them too difficult. Mini games have a certain limit of moves or time, and you earn ranks and rewards according to rank.
Clearing maps and missions can give you gold, upgrade materials or evolution stones. You’ll need them to improve your various Mobiles which have skill trees, or upgrade your avatar’s equipment, which seem to have various rarities and stats. On top of that are researchable skills which take time to complete. The possibilities seem endless!
Other features previewed are guilds, three game modes – Real time, Turn-based and Custom – and a Lover system. There are premium passes that provide rewards at various milestones. Premium currency can get you Mobiles, equipment pieces and so forth. Complete missions for even more rewards!
All features may not be final due to the nature of the Closed Beta Stress Test. We’ll see how it comes together when it actually launches. From the Closed Beta, it feels quite similar to the original Gunbound, but more, and better. That should be good news to old fans, and new ones won’t miss out!
