Square Enix has shared a new batch of FFVIIR screenshots, covering fan-favourite locations like Wall Market, and the Honeybee Inn, among other peeks and snippets of various familiar characters! Before we check out how cute Cloud is, let’s go through the given shiny screenshots in order:
Tseng
Tseng, leader of the Turks, smouldering with the upgraded graphics of the remake. To refresh your memory, the Turks are a small, elite organization affiliated with Shinra. They do everything the company needs them to: from scouting for SOLDIER candidates, VIP protection, and assassination should it come to it.
Tseng is the cool-headed leader capable of managing his eccentric subordinates. An old acquaintance of Aerith’s, he’s watched over her since she moved to the slums.
Don Corneo
Your favourite lecherous scumbag is back and bigger than ever, the true ruler of Wall Market. He hosts nightly auditions for the “next Mrs. Corneo”. He may be foul-mouthed to match his visage, but he nevertheless knows the way of people, with even the dregs of society firmly under his thumb.
Andrea Rhodea
The owner of, and the dancer at, the Honeybee Inn is a man of influence within the quarter, with authority to approve women for Corneo’s auditions. Besides that, he’s able to dazzle the crowd each night with performances that defy description. In his search for perfection, both his mind and body undergoes rigorous training.
Leslie Kyle
This is Don Corneo’s young-looking lackey. His mannerisms belies his youthful look, seemingly some old curmudgeon at heart. With dead-eye stare and general apathy, he nevertheless has pride of place among the don’s men.
Madam M
Madam M is the proprietress of a hand-massage parlor in Wall Market. Alongside Andrea, she has plenty of influence within the quarter, also able to approve women to enter Corneo’s auditions. The woman is a prideful one, as courteous only as the depths of her customers pockets.
Chocobo Sam
Chocobo Sam is yet another one able to approve women for Corneo’s Auditions. He’s both a Chocobo handler in Wall Market, as well as running a delivery service very easily called, Sam’s Delivery. He’s quite the avid gambler too, but is more hooked on the rush than the winnings themselves.
Barret in Battle
If you’ve already played the demo, you’d have time to get used to Barret’s combat style. Nevertheless, here’s the breakdown:
The gun arm naturally makes Barret an ideal long-ranged fighter. Hit the attack button to fire a volley, or hold down the button for an extended salvo.
Hit the triangle button for Barret’s “Overcharge” attack, dealing more damage than his standard shots while also filling a large portion of his ATB gauge. It does take a long time to recharge the attack, but speed it up by pressing triangle again.
Barret’s battle abilities
Fill the ATB gauge so that Barret can use one of his special abilities! The following two are what the post highlights:
Focused Shot: Use alal available ATB charges to deliver a powerful attack. It does good damage as well as fill up an enemy’s stagger gauge. Once staggered, an enemy will be vulnerable to even more damage.
Lifesaver: As you might guess from the name, this skill will have Barret share some of his HP with allies when they take damage.
Command Materia – Enemy Skill
Materia plays a key role in the game, of course, with these orbs giving characters the ability to use magic, special abilities and more. See the screenshot of the Enemy Skill materia:
Equipping this on a party member will give them the chance to learn enemy attacks that are used on them. Characters can only use enemy skills when the relevant materia is equipped.
Wall Market
Now, to Wall Market itself at last! Built on the ruins of the collapsed Sector 6 plate, this is Midgar’s biggest – and most infamous – entertainment quarter.
Run by Don Corneo, this is one of the few, if only, areas almost entirely free of Shinra’s influence.
It’s plenty lively and if you look for them, there’s plenty of intriguing ways to pass lonely nights.
Corneo Colosseum
Make your way over to the Corneo Colosseum, where the brave or foolhardy can engage in brutal battles against man or monster. Get fame, glory, and of course, your rewards, should you win.
The Honeybee Inn
Maybe you’d want to… wind down just a little. The Honeybee Inn is Wall Market’s premier nightclub, where you can have the most unforgettable of nights.
Be dazzled by the Honeybee’s gorgeous cast of honeygirls and boys.
If there’s a performer who’s piqued your interest, then get a private room to enjoy some persona time with them.
Tifa and Aerith will be dressing up to infiltrate the good don’s mansion. Cloud will be joining them as well. Each character will have multiple costumes, so look forward to that!
Beginner’s Hall
At the Beginner’s Hall, learn the basics of weapon enhancement. Find the weapons shop on the ground floor, and the base of the neighbourhood watch on the second floor.
New feature: Jukebox
You may come across areas playing special music as you wander around the town. You can get the songs as music discs from shops or citizens. When you acquire a disc, an icon will appear on the top left of the screen.
Collect these discs and play them on any jukebox. You can find one in Tifa’s bar, Seventh Heaven.
Summon: Leviathan
Summons are powerful Materia, and call on their power in battle! Leviathan is the featured summon this time.
Worshipped as a deity in the Wutai region, this non-elemental summon takes the form of a water serpent. Gaze upon its savage beauty as it rises from the briny depths, with tidal waves to wash foes away.
