SNK announced at EVO 2022 that its flagship fighting game franchise Fatal Fury/Garou game will be returning with a new installment more than 20 years after the last one.
The was announced with a new teaser trailer showing that a new Fatal Fury/Garou game had been greenlit.
A new piece of key art was also revealed alongside the reveal featuring Rock Howard, the protagonist of the last Fatal Fury game, ‘Garou: Mark of The Wolves’ which was released in 1999 for the Neo Geo arcade and home console systems.
It also features silhouettes of the characters Billy Kane and Kain R. Heinlein, the final boss of Mark of The Wolves.
Fatal Fury is noticeable as the series that introduced a number of SNK’s most iconic characters including Terry Bogard, Mai Shiranui, Kim Kaphwan, and Geese Howard. The series had a number of arcade hits throughout the 90s finally culminating in Garou: Mark of The Wolves which is generally considered one of the best fighting games of all time among the FGC.
The series would remain dormant since then however many of its characters would become regular fighters in SNK’s popular crossover franchise The King of Fighters. Fatal Fury fighters would also go on to guest star in many other fighting games including Dead or Alive, Fighting EX Layer, and Super Smash Bros Ultimate.
As of this article, the game has only been announced as “green-lit”. This means that it’s likely still early in development so we probably won’t see more information about it for a good while.
SNK’s latest fighting game, which includes many popular Fatal Fury characters, The King of Fighters XV is available for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC.
