The design for an upcoming original Digimon in Chinese mobile game Digimon: New Century has been revealed and it certainly looks interesting. The Digimon in question does not have an official name as of now.
As noted by Twitter user @Ulforce_Soul, the Digimon’s fish-like design is derived from the Kun, a giant fish in Chinese mythology.
According to Chinese legend, fish like koi and carp are commonly associated with dragons as they are capable of transforming into them. However, the Kun is said to evolve into a Peng, a giant bird.
While the developers did not reveal any additional information on this Digimon besides the fact that it’s based on the Kun, it’s safe to assume that it is capable of Digivolving. It’s still uncertain what stage is this original Digimon on.
As teased by the developers last year, there will be more original Digimon coming to Digimon: New Century. The developers did state that they are keen on releasing “cute-looking Digimon” and Digimon that incorporate elements of bian lian, or face-changing from Chinese Sichuan opera.
Even though there is still no word of an English release of Digimon: New Century, we do hope that these new Digimon released specifically for the game will be able to attain further recognition in the main franchise.
