Earlier today, Netflix uploaded an English-subtitled trailer for the 2021 remake of Shaman King. You can watch the trailer here:
Based on the trailer above, Shaman King will release on an unspecified date on Netflix later this year. In comparison, the reboot will air in Japan on 1st April 2021. Thus, it is extremely likely that the anime will air after that date, considering the trend with Netflix and its anime releases.
Based on Hiroyuki Takei’s manga of the same name, the shounen anime first aired back in 2001. It ran for 64 episodes. However, its popularity was ultimately overshadowed by the likes of other shounen anime such as Naruto and Hunter x Hunter.
Despite being 20 years old, a large number of the voice cast from the 2001 version will reprise their roles in the 2021 reboot. Some of the returning voice talents include:
- Romi Park as Tao Ren
- Minami Takayam as Hao Asakura
- Megumi Hayashibara as Anna Kyouyama
- Katsuyuki Konishi as Amidamaru
- Inuko Inuyama as Manta Oyamada
Unfortunately, Yuuko Satou, who voiced protagonist Yoh Asakura in the 2001 version will not be taking up the role in the reboot. In her place is Yoko Hikasa.
Regardless, those who grew up watching Shaman King in their childhood ought to be excited for the remake. Stay tuned to Shaman King (2021)’s Netflix page.
