According to the Hollywood Reporter, The Netflix adaptation of Cowboy Bebop has been canceled after its first season aired only last month on November 19th, only three weeks ago.
There has been no confirmed reason for the series’ cancellation however the show has received a poor reception since its release with a 47% critical score and 55% audience on rotten tomatoes.
It is likely that the less-than-stellar scores from critics and audiences alike played a part in why the Netflix Cowboy Bebop has been canceled. Although the show had also gotten almost 74 million viewing hours worldwide since its debut so it wasn’t doing badly in terms of ratings.
Cowboy Bebop is based on the critically acclaimed anime of the same name. It follows a group of bounty hunters in space, attempting to make money through their work, meeting strange people, and confronting their own pasts along the way. The show has been generally criticized for its weal writing and character development in comparison to the original anime.
When I reviewed the Netflix Cowboy Bebop for this website, I saw it as a fairly average to mediocre show. Not the worst anime adaptation, but also not that good with some glaring flaws. I will say, I thought the visual design of the show was impressive.
We even talked about the adaption in greater detail on an episode of the Braveroom Podcast.
Cowboy Bebop Season 1 is available on Netflix.
