Netflix has shown they’re more than prepared for an extended pandemic with a robust lineup of anime for 2021. These announcements were all made at Netflix Anime Festival, the platform’s celebration of anime. They include cult classics such as Way of the Househusband as well as original projects like Eden.

The anime is another take on the Godzilla franchise, and follows a young girl and a moody genius. The anime draws on a lot of kaiju from over the years, including Rodan and several more. The anime is being produced by bones (My Hero Academia) as well as Orange. According to Netflix, their combined expertise in 2d and 3D animation makes this one to look out for.
Eden (2021)
In this original sci-fi story, humanity is now extinct, Instead, robots now roam the planet. However, two robots find what appears to be the last human, and raise her as their own. They mention, though, that other robots don’t exactly think highly of humans, believing them to be a source of evil.

Produced by david Production of Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure fame, Spriggan is a story set in an alternate history cold war where secret organizations fight over powerful artifacts. These artifacts, called OOPArts, (Out-of-place Artifacts) have shown up all over the world, and it’s up to ARCAM to reclaim them, lest they be used as weapons.

One of several spin-offs of Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure: Diamond is Unbreakable, the series follows titular character Kishibe Rohan. Though originally intended to be a series of original one-shot stories, Jojo creator Hirohiko Ariaki could not resist shifting it to focus on the mangaka character instead.
Gokushofudou / Way Of The Househusband (2021)
This slice-of-life manga revolves around the wholesome adventures of Tatsu, who takes care of his house while his wife works. Did we mention he’s also a former member of the Yakuza, feared by many as the Immortal Tatsu? The manga’s seen some massive popularity over the years getting its own live-action series, and so an anime adaptation was simply a matter of when.
Yasuke (2021)

This horror-action manga follows a young highschooler who suddenly finds herself in a world of high-rise buildings connected via bridges. Separated from her brother, she now has to survive an onslaught of masked combatants, all out to kill each other. It’s definitely not for the faint of heart, so viewer discretion is advised.
Vampire In The Garden (2021)
This original story centers around a future where mankind went to war with the Vampires. However, the Vampire Queen herself has gone missing, and now two girls must find a paradise for humans and Vampires alike. They haven’t shown much about this anime, but it’s definitely one to keep an eye out for.
Pacific Rim: The Black (2021)
This anime is yet another entry in the Pacific Rim universe, based on the 2013 movie by Guillermo Del Toro. The Black follows the story of Australia as it fights off a wave of Kaiju invasions using the movie’s signature technology, the duo-piloted Jaegers.

This battle anime focuses on the “strongest battle between parent and child”. To celebrate the announcement of the anime, the series’ mangaka even produced a special illustration. The original manga definitely has that 80s battle-manga vibe to it, so fans of the genre will want to check this out.

The CG series based on the popular horror game Resident Evil is coming to Netflix, as was previously announced. We were also treated to previously-released footage from the show, showing Claire Redfield and Leon S Kennedy in the show’s creepy atmospheric art style.
As is, it looks like next year is going to be a great year for anime fans in Asian markets. According to Netflix, all of these releases will be global, so you won’t have to worry about being region-locked.
Events like the Netflix Anime Festival are a good sign in the industry, as consumers have little access to legal streams of anime in the Southeast Asia region. Instead, a lot of anime airs on cable television, which is significantly less convenient for users.
