Netflix Acquires Next Games For 65 million Euros

Netflix has acquired game studio Next Games, in a 65 million Euro (RM302.6 million) deal, strengthening their mobile game development arm.

Next Games is the developer of mobile titles such as Stranger Things: Puzzle Tales and develops other licensed mobile spin offs like The Walking Dead: No Man’s Land.

“Next Games has a seasoned management team, strong track record with mobile games based on entertainment franchises, and solid operational capabilities,” said Michael Verdu, Vice President of Games, Netflix.

“We are excited for Next Games to join Netflix as a core studio in a strategic region and key talent market, expanding our internal game studio capabilities. While we’re just getting started in games, I am confident that together with Next Games we will be able to build a portfolio of world class games that will delight our members around the world.”

Netflix acquiring Next Games is a big tell of their focus going forward- it looks like the company has more plans for Netflix Games, and acquiring a studio to develop them in-house is a better way to reach those plans.
