NetEase Games, one of the largest game developer and publisher companies from China next to Tencent has recently published their Fiscal Year 2017 Financial Results. The company has seen a tremendous growth of RMB 36.3 billion (US$ 5.6 billion) compared to previous fiscal year 2016 of RMB 28 billion. Their mobile games have accounted for approximately 70.8% of net revenues from online games for fiscal year 2017 compared to last year’s 61.9%.
NetEase’s success can be seen from their online game services that garnered their gross profit in 2017 which was attributed from their increased revenue contribution from self-developed mobile games such as Onmyoji and the mobile version of New Ghost. The company continued to strengthen their influence in the market by launching more new self-developed hit mobile titles across global audiences which includes games like:
Knives Out: Accumulated over 100 million registered users to date and has been recommended by Google Play Store in over 10 countries since its launch in November 2017.
Terminator 2: Judgment Day(Rules of Survival): Accumulated over 80 million registered users to date, and the global release of Rules of Survival, has been ranked as one of the most popular games on iOS platform and Google Play Store across multiple countries including U.S market since its launch in November 2017.
Minecraft: Successfully introduced Mojang’s Minecraft in China across all platforms with early monetization progressing well.
Onmyoji: Invigorated popularity of Onmyoji and expanded international reach with release of a new content update, successful launch in Thailand in November 2017 and introduction of a new MOBA version in January 2018, which was well-received by players.
While previous stable flagship titles and self-developed games such as Fantasy Westward Journey Online and Invincible (global version is named Immortal Conquest) were strengthened in the market as well. In addition to their new pipeline of games combining diversification strategy in their upcoming games like the asymmetrical battle arena game Identity V, RPG Sky and 2.5D casual battle arena game Code: Alive, NetEase aims to continue their aggressive strategy to maintain or rise even higher than before in the industry.
