NetEase Games Announces Floatopia, a Whimsical Life Simulation Game for Console and PC

In a surprise announcement during gamescom 2024 Opening Night Live, NetEase Games has revealed Floatopia, a new floating islands life simulation game coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PC. The game invites players to step into a fantastical world filled with superpowers, daydreaming, and endless exploration.

Floatopia puts a magical twist on classic life simulation gameplay. Players will be able to farm, fish, log resources, and decorate their very own customizable floating island home. But the real draw is the game’s unique premise – a world where “useless” superpowers are the norm, and the true value in these abilities is gradually uncovered.

“In this superpowered world, you can do countless things or simply do nothing at all,” the game’s description reads. “Gaze at the sky, let your thoughts wander—every moment is magical, even when you’re just daydreaming.”

Beyond the serene island living, Floatopia will allow players to travel to all-new realms inspired by diverse cultures, blending reality and fantasy. From mountaintop cities to frozen tundras, the game promises a constantly expanding world to discover.

Floatopia seems to put a strong emphasis on social gameplay and player expression as well. The developer notes that the game will feature “a social world where close-knit circles and meaningful connections thrive,” with both extroverted and introverted playstyles catered for.

Customization also appears to be a key focus, with players able to shape the terrain of their islands, set the perfect theme, and personalize every last detail, from the landscape to their character’s wardrobe. While an exact release date was not provided, Floatopia is now available for pre-registration on the official website. NetEase Games promises regular content updates to ensure the adventure never ends.
