Square Enix has announced the release date for NEO: The World Ends With You, the follow up to the classic Nintendo DS RPG.
NEO: The World Ends With You has a release date of July 27th 2021, and will release on Nintendo Switch and PS4. Square Enix announced the game’s release date along with a new trailer showcasing the English dub cast as well as gameplay for the game.
Unlike the first game’s isometric perspective, it looks like NEO will have a more traditional 3rd person angle, and play more like a regular action game. Combat looks like it will feature many of the same features as the original, being built around Pins that give you different abilities. You’ll also be getting new gear in the form of outfits, also similar to the previous game.
The scanning system also makes a return, letting you scan the thoughts of ordinary people. These will be an important part of the game, since in the original The World Ends With You the solutions to puzzles were often hidden this way. There’s no mention if the Meme system would be returning, wherein you could plant thoughts in people’s heads.
One new feature they’ve also shown multiple teams of characters. The main character’s party is called the Wicket Twisters, while groups of Reapers like the Shinjuku and Shibuya Reapers are also around.
You’ll also be able to rewind time, allowing you to decide differently on the day’s events to get different outcomes. It’s unknown what the consequences of missing some of these events will be.
The trailer also ends with the appearance of Neku, the main character of the original game.
