It’s a good day to love basketball, as the long-awaited annual tradition of player ratings is out for the upcoming NBA 2K21. The basketball game rates all the players in the game based on their performance in the past year, with LeBron James sitting on a 98 as the highest-rated player this year.

The ratings are being slowly released over the course of the day via the NBA 2K twitter. Each player gets their own tweet, along with their updated rating based on their performance this year.
For those unfamiliar, player ratings are based on a 99-point scale. While the exact formula to determine them is unknown, it’s known that 2K factors in various attributes. The can include physical attributes like a player’s speed, as well as more subjective things like their decision-making on the court.
Sometimes the results of these ratings aren’t exactly joy-inducing. Rudy Gay once took to twitter over being rated an 83 in NBA 2K18. He described the rating as a “crock of BS”.

Regardless, if you’re a basketball fan, there’s plenty to be excited about. After all, the big event of scrolling through twitter rooting for your favorite basketball players is always a good time, even more so with your friends.
NBA 2K21 releases November 10th for Xbox Series X and November 12th for PS5. The new player rankings will be present in the next-gen editions of the game.
