The new Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty set for Magic: The Gathering ( MtG) isn’t shy about it’s Japanese influences, and that’s why they’re going all-in with these lovely new land cards, designed in the traditional Ukiyo-e art style.
Thanks to our friends at Wizards of the Coast, we’ve gotten a special preview of one of these lands- the friendship-anxiety-inducing Blue Land card- to show off in all its stunning Ukiyo-e glory.
These MtG Kamigawa Land cards are done by the Japanese illustrators at Amayagi-do, with an expert focus on the traditional Japanese art style. While blue land is usually depicted as an island in the sea, their take on it is a gorgeous waterfall, as if in a secret cove in the forest.
You’ll be able to get these Ukiyo-e MTG Land cards in both foil and non-foil versions- but they’re a lot rarer than your basic lands, so for every 3 basic lands you get you’ll only get about one of these Ukiyo-e cards, with no guarantee of it being the foil variant.
For those not aware, Land cards are the basic building blocks of your MtG deck. Everything from creatures to spells will need mana to be played, and that in turn comes from land cards like these.
In MtG each color has its own distinct playstyle, with Blue decks focusing on a much craftier playbook. These include drawing cards to even wicked counterspells, so running even partially blue magic in your deck means you’ll be keeping your foes on their toes.
