MTG Commander Legends: Battle for Baldur’s Gate Set Will Be Releasing This June

Wizards of the Coast will be releasing Commander Legends: Battle for Baldur’s Gate, the latest set for the iconic trading card game, Magic: The Gathering (MTG).

The set contains 361 cards and releases on the 10th of June 2022. It will be available in Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, and the Philippines.

Expanding from 2020’s Commander Legends, Battle for Baldur’s Gate further expands on the format by integrating iconic characters and mechanics from the popular tabletop role-playing game, Dungeons & Dragons (D&D).

Players will journey to Baldur’s Gate, the most influential metropolis in the Forgotten Realms. The game will feature many D&D icons such as Tasha the Witch, Elminster, and the duo Minsc and Boo, Battle for Baldur’s Gate allows players to weave their own tale of power and intrigue as you battle your friends through the cards of Magic.

 A set specifically designed to be drafted, Battle for Baldur’s Gate is significant in that it allows for two or more of the same card to be included in a deck.

Certain tabletop mechanics have been adapted for the set from D&D. These include Backgrounds, a new type of enchantment.

Legendary Background cards are available that represent the D&D style story that brought your commander to where they are now and gives them a bonus. Most often, this bonus comes in the form of new abilities your commander can gain or a stat buff.

True to the lore of Baldur’s Gate, the second Commander Legends set sees the return of Rulebook frames. Every Legendary Creature card is styled after a traditional Dungeons & Dragons Monster Manual, evoking the classic sword and sorcery rulebook aesthetic from the days of yore.

There will also be stunning borderless frames available for certain Mythic Rare Planeswalkers, artifacts, and creatures, including five new Mythic Elder Dragons that each embody color and powerful ability.

Commander Legends: Battle for Baldur’s Gate will be available as Draft Boosters, Set Boosters, and Collector Boosters, as well as Precon Commander Decks, a Prerelease pack, and a special Commander Legends Bundle containing an oversized D20.

The set will be available in Malaysia on the 10th of June in select retail stores and on the MTG official website.
