With Magic The Gathering ( MTG ) ‘s Lord of The Rings: Tales of Middle-Earth due out soon, it’s only natural that it’d be time for yet another card preview, this time for Moria Marauder.
Like other crossover cards, Moria Marauder is full of great flavor for fans- it’s a 2-cost red Goblin, and is a pretty decent card for early game, despite only being a 1/1.
The card’s text reads as follows:
Double Strike
Whenever a Goblin or Orc you control would deal combat damage to a player, exile the top card of your library. You may play that card this turn
Admittedly, it’s not the card that’s going to make or break your deck- but it very much fits the theme of Goblins, potentially allowing you to get bigger, more important cards out after attacking.
One nice detail is that it’s not limited to Moria Marauder- if you’re playing Commander, basically any of the Goblins in MtG can proc this effect, potentially letting you build momentum for your forces.
In fact, Akki Battle Squad from Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty is one of those cards you’d want to pull with its effect, since its effect would allow you to have a second combat phase- paired with Battle Cry Goblin’s haste ability should allow you to be quite the threat.
That’s not to say there’s nothing in the Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle-Earth set to pair it up with- while there’s still more card previews yet to find out, there’s a good chance this card’s low cost and ability to potentially strengthen your end board would make it good filler for Red decks.
Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle-Earth releases on June 23rd, and you’ll be able to pick up packs for yourself at any friendly local game store that also stocks Magic: The Gathering. Our thanks to Wizards of the Coast for this card preview.
