Netflix has announced that they will be making an anime adaptation of One Piece creator Eiichirou Oda’s one-shot Manga “Monsters” titled Monsters 103 Mercies Dragon Damnation.
Monsters 103 Mercies Dragon Damnation will be airing worldwide on Netflix on 21st January 2024, with a runtime of 25 minutes, and it is animated by E&H production and directed by Sunghoo Park who also worked on Season 1 of Jujutsu Kaisen and Jujutsu Kaisen 0 as the director.
This anime adaptation will be a unique case where it will only have a single episode, as it’s based on a one-shot manga.
The Monsters one-shot was originally published in the 1994 Autumn Special of Weekly Shonen Jump Soukan, and was later reprinted as part of a pre-One Piece compilation story collection back in 1998.
Taking place in the world of One Piece, Monsters 103 Mercies Dragon Damnation features the samurai Ryuma and his band of misfits as they embark on an adventure.
Fans of the One Piece series might find the main protagonist, Ryuma, to be familiar, and that’s because he is the ancestor of Roronoa Zoro, the samurai who is known for wielding three swords.
While the story of Ryuma is a standalone tale, it does provide some backstory for a key part of Zoro’s history and the world of One Piece overall.
