Recently, there has been a sudden spike in players for Monster Hunter World on Steam, peaking at 97K concurrent players.
This came after Capcom launched the Return to World campaign to celebrate the announcement of Monster Hunter Wilds during The Game Awards 2023 on December 7th.
The campaign gave players a massive 67% discount for Monster Hunter World: Iceborne Master Edition, rallying hunters to experience the game once again with community livestreams.
This reignited the interest of fans and led the concurrent players of Monster Hunter World to rise drastically throughout the week, including many content creators returning to stream the game live.
Despite the game being 5 years old, Monster Hunter World’s 24-peak concurrent players were 69K higher than the more recent entry, Monster Hunter Rise.
Note that Capcom is also giving fans a huge discount for Monster Hunter Rise and its expansion Sunbreak on Steam.
The last time Monster Hunter World saw a massive resurgence in players was during the release of the Iceborne expansion back in January 2020 with 284K concurrent players according to SteamDB data.
After the reveal of Monster Hunter Wilds, many fans have been hard at work trying to dissect the trailer for any details and speculate what we can expect from the game.
One notable discovery was that the hunter in the trailer wears a Slinger and a Scoutfly cage, leading to a popular fan theory that Monster Hunter Wilds will be taking place in the New World, the continent in which Monster Hunter World takes place.
