BASIC STATS |
ELEMENTAL STATS |
SKILLS |
Like its incarnation in Monster Hunter Stories, Molten Tigrex is also a non-elemental monster with a focus on fire-based attacks in Monster Hunter Stories 2. However, the elements in the sequel game has their own attack stats unlike the original where you could change your Monstie’s element based on its genes. This change has made Molten Tigrex – as well as Soulseer Mizutsune – somewhat weaker.
OVERVIEW
Stats wise, Molten Tigrex is comparable to Bloodbath Diablos, with the same weaknesses and attack stats. Bloodbath Diablos wins out by having slightly better HP, Crit Rate and Kinship skill. Since Bloodbath Diablos and Molten Tigrex share the same weakness, Molten Tigrex almost seems redundant, more so when you can get Bloodbath Diablos in the same area as Molten Tigrex.
Molten Tigrex offers two new genes:
- Dust Gene (L) – Fire – Power – Firepowder – Deals heavy fire damage to all enemies. High chance to inflict Blastblight.
- Explosion Gene (L) – Fire – Speed – Ignition Kick – Deals heavy fire damage to one enemy. Instantly causes Blastblight.
While Firepowder can deal insane damage, its 44 Kinship cost is also incredibly expensive. If you intend to use it, having genes like Harmony can make it cheaper. Teostra’s Ignition Flare is a close comparison, the difference being it can instantly cause Blastblight at a higher Kinship cost of 48.
Ignition Kick can be nice for PVE, but it’ll be hard to take advantage of its additional effect. Currently, the only single target attack that can cause Blastblight is Brachydios’ Slime Stomp, which deals light Fire damage with a low chance of inflicting the status. Ignition Kick could be better in PVP where you use it as a follow up attack after inflicting Blastblight to snipe an enemy.
Molten Tigrex is best utilized as a Non-Elemental Monstie be it for PVE or PVP to utilize the maxed Non-Elemental Attack stat. If you want to use just the Fire genes, give them to a Fire elemental Monstie e.g. Teostra, Hellblade Glavenus, Brachydios, Dreadqueen Rathian.
