Fans looking for a more portable experience are in for a treat with Monster Hunter Rise, a new title coming exclusively for Nintendo Switch. The title drops March 26, 2021.
Rather than returning to the classic formula, the new title incorporates many ideas from Monster Hunter World: Iceborne. Some of these ideas include Turf Wars, as well as a focus on mobility.
New to the franchise is the Palamute, a Canyne companion that you can equip instead of the series’ signature Palicos. These Palamutes will be more offense-focused, and can be ridden around the game’s maps.
Most impressive is the Wire Bug, the new mobility option. Similar to clutch claw, this lets you grapple on to invisible points in the air, making aerial mobility much more viable in this game. Additionally, the trailer shows the hunter being able to do airdashes as well.
Similar to Monster Hunter World, Rise also features voice acted cutscenes. Though unconfirmed, the trailer makes it seem like your Hunter will also have dialogue this time.
The series’ new flagship is a Fanged Wyvern, Magnamalo. Unlike many games, Rise does not feature an Elder Dragon as its flagship. Not much is known about the monster yet.
