Ahead of Monster Hunter Riders launch on 19 February 2020, Capcom has released more gameplay details via livestream, showing off the battle system. The upcoming mobile game focuses on the continent of Felgia, where Monster Riders are prevalent with a guild to themselves.
Similarly to Monster Hunter Stories, Riders and Monsters fight as pairs. Three Rider pairs will form your main party. Turn-based battles makes up the combat system, and you choose skills to use instead of an attack triangle. The characters seem to have a larger focus, with Riders having their own skills showcasing their weapon attacks and personality. There are skills that also utilize items from within the series too. SP is needed for skills, and should you save up enough, you can use powerful Tag Skills.
You can watch the full livestream below:
The demo’d quest is a “Monstie Collection Quest”, where you can get lower rarity versions of monsters. Monsties can also be earned through Invasions and Defeat quests. The turn order is shown at the top, with your attacks on the bottom. You can have up to four skills, further separated into Rider Skills, Monstie Skills and Tag Skills. Use SP and fill up the Memory Stone, which at full charge, can power up an attack once per battle.
The gacha system will allow you to obtain Riders. Monsties are earned via quests. The same characters can appear at different rarities, which then power up the duplicate. Last but not least are monsters confirmed to appear in the game:
Iodrome
Glavenus
Great Jaggi
Royal Ludroth
Brachydios
How’s that for the gameplay teaser for Monster Hunter Riders? As mentioned, the game will be released 19 February 2020, not too long now! You can download it on the Japan Apple App Store, but it won’t be playable until the release date.
