In a exciting collaboration celebrating Monster Hunter’s 20th anniversary, Bandai Namco and Capcom have announced the release of Monster Hunter-themed Digimon Colour devices. These virtual pet gadgets will allow fans to raise and battle iconic monsters from the popular hunting franchise.
Bandai Namco and Capcom plan to release two versions of the device, theming them after fan-favorite monsters Rathalos and Zinogre. Players will be able to nurture a variety of Monster Hunter creatures, rendered in charming pixel art. The devices will feature evolution mechanics similar to traditional Digimon products, with care behaviors influencing how monsters develop. Potential evolutions include Rathalos, Zinogre, Khezu, Rajang, Tigrex, Nargacuga, and Mizutsune, among others.
In addition, these new devices will be compatible with existing Digimon Colour releases, enabling cross-franchise battles between Monster Hunter creatures and classic Digimon.
The Monster Hunter Digimon devices are slated for a February 2025 release, with preorders available through Premium Bandai at 7,700 yen. However, Premium Bandai may limit availability outside of Japan, as they do not ship to all regions globally. Moreover, western fans hoping to acquire these devices may face challenges, as Digimon Colour devices have had limited international releases in the past.
While Bandai Namco has increased support for Tamagotchi and Digimon device releases in Western markets in recent years, including variants like Hello Kitty and Star Wars, the distribution plans for these Monster Hunter editions remain unclear. Furthermore, the collaboration has generated significant interest, with many praising the pixel art adaptations of Monster Hunter designs.
