Heroes of Newerth (HoN) is making a comeback with Heroes of Newerth: Reborn, developed by Kongor Studios and published by Garena. Originally released in 2010, HoN was a competitor to Dota and League of Legends, praised for its fast-paced gameplay and deep mechanics. However, it was shut down in 2022. Now, a passionate team of former developers and fans are bringing it back, believing it was “killed too soon.”
Reborn is being built on iGames Engine, replacing the original K2 Engine, and will feature over 80 heroes at launch. The game will introduce modern enhancements, including improved UI, better matchmaking, and new mechanics like a role queue system, a revamped jungle boss, and ravens for scouting. The developers emphasize that Reborn isn’t trying to compete with Dota 2 or League of Legends but rather to revive HoN’s unique gameplay for both veterans and newcomers.
The project is primarily funded through iGames’ crowdfunding platform, where backers can support development in exchange for exclusive rewards. Within a few days, over 4,000 supporters have contributed more than $58,000. As of writing, the project has amassed over 8,000 supporters, raising $82,937.
Nick “BreakyCPK” Caras, Director of Communications at Kongor Studios, reassures fans that Reborn will stay true to HoN’s core identity while modernizing where needed. “We’ve kept what made HoN unique while upgrading everything around it,” he said.
A release date for Heroes of Newerth: Reborn has yet to be announced, but the developers are targeting late 2025 or early 2026. Fans can stay updated via the game’s official website and social media such as on X.
