miHoYo has opened several new job openings in Singapore via their website, looking to better handle the Global Market for their many games.
Unfortunately, those who are hoping for a Genshin Impact support studio need to temper their expectations, as most of the miHoYo jobs listed for Singapore trend more towards business and operations.
Here are some of the positions listed via miHoYo’s website:
- Global Customer Service
- Localization Manager
- Senior Product Manager
- Senior Platform Operations Manager
The positions themselves require fluency in both Chinese and English, which makes sense when you remember miHoYo is a Chinese company. The senior positions also require a degree-level education at minimum, with some prior experience.
As you can see, a lot of these are more to the business end of running miHoYo, which means the move to Singapore could very well be a sign that the China-based developers are putting more focus on the SEA region.
What This Could Mean For SEA Fans (Speculation)
Of course, it’s not like miHoYo’s interest in the SEA region was non-existent- Honkai Impact 3rd maintains a separate client for its SEA server, independent from the China server but also running parallel to the Global one.
However, expanding operations in the region is ultimately good for fans, because it could also bring more localized events. Genshin Impact has had real-world events before, such as with its KFC event in China. While we’re not at all saying they could bring the event over here, having more operation staff in the SEA region could definitely improve the odds of events for that region.
That being said the new positions will also be dealing with global issues, considering the listing of the customer service position.
