It was announced at the recent Nintendo Direct that the original Metroid Prime will be getting an HD Remaster for the Nintendo Switch.
The three games will be coming out later today on Nintendo Switch Eshop. The physical version of the game will release on February 22nd.
Metroid Prime is a first-person adventure game where you play as the bounty hunter Samus Aran, as she adventures across the galaxy attempting to stop the threat and misuse of The Metroid, a group of dangerous parasitic aliens.
The original Metroid Prime was first released on the Nintendo Gamecube and was later ported to the Nintendo Wii as part of the Metroid Prime Trilogy with its two sequels. This new version will feature dual stick controls for the first time.
Metroid Prime 4 was announced to be in production at Nintendo’s 2017 E3 direct however in 2019 it was announced that the game was restarting development from scratch as Nintendo was not satisfied with the quality of the current project (the developer of the original build was never revealed). The game is currently in development at Texas-based Nintendo subsidiary Retro Studios which made the previous three Prime games as well as the two recent Donkey Kong Country games.
In the meantime, a 2D Metroid game titled Metroid Dread was released for Nintendo Switch in 2021 to critical acclaim.
Metroid Prime HD Remaster is now available for Nintendo Switch.
